Bushidō and the Path of Strength – Why I Started KindouX

My name is Anjin, born in Tokyo, Japan.

For over 20 years, I’ve been involved in selling hibachi braziers, iron kettles, and tea ceremony utensils. Through this work, I’ve collaborated with many master craftsmen across Japan and have gained deep knowledge of traditional Japanese artisan culture.

The Encounter with ChatGPT and AI Image Generation

In 2023, when ChatGPT 3.5 was released, I had the idea of creating T-shirts using AI-generated images.

At first, I was thinking broadly about “Japanese culture” as a theme. But soon, one idea stood out: Bushidō — the way of the samurai.

I’ve always enjoyed working out, especially training with kettlebells (although I haven’t done it much recently). I often find myself scrolling through workout accounts on Instagram. One day I thought:

“What if I could create apparel for people who love both Bushidō and fitness?”

That was the spark that shaped the concept for my brand.

From ecsamurai to KindouX

In the early days, without overthinking, I launched my online store under the domain ecsamurai.com.

But as the concept became clearer, I realized what I truly wanted to express was “Kiniku no Michi”The Path of Strength. I needed a brand name that embodied that spirit.

This is how KindouX was born.

“Kin” means muscle, “Dō” (道) means “the way” in Japanese, and the “X” symbolizes sports, challenge, and crossing boundaries. KindouX merges the discipline of Bushidō with the energy of modern fitness culture.

Starting with the U.S. Market

I began by targeting the U.S. market, using Printful for on-demand production and shipping.

This is my first time running an overseas-focused e-commerce store. I’m sure there will be areas for improvement, so if you notice anything or have feedback, I’d greatly appreciate it.

At the moment, shipping is available to the United States and Japan only. In the future, I hope to expand to the EU.

Honoring Craftsmanship – The Tataraforged Iron Kettle

My background also connects deeply to Tatara steelmaking, a traditional Japanese method of smelting iron sand. This technique was historically used to forge samurai swords. Today, there is only one craftsman in Japan who still creates iron kettles using this method.

I have worked alongside this craftsman for many years, and one day I hope to introduce his iron kettles to the world through this platform.

Shintō and Bushidō – A Way of Life, Not a Religion

Behind Bushidō lies the spirit of Shintō, Japan’s indigenous belief system.

It’s often misunderstood as a religion, but Shintō has no strict commandments or fixed dogma. Instead, it is a philosophy of living in harmony with nature, showing gratitude, and maintaining purity of heart.

Through KindouX, I want to share not only the aesthetics of Bushidō but also the valuable aspects of Shintō with the world.

In Closing – The Purpose of This Site

KindouX is more than just an apparel brand.

It is a way to inspire self-improvement, discipline, and strength — and to pass that spirit on to others.

I hope that this small online store can, in its own way, contribute to peace and mutual understanding around the world.
